Sankofa Psychological Services, LLC is dedicated to providing training and preparation for diverse doctoral graduate students in psychology. Sankofa Psychological Services, LLC, offers a unique opportunity to experience a diverse and depth-oriented approach toward graduate level psychological training. Training and education are key elements of Sankofa’s mission. The Sankofa training program has its roots in existential-humanistic and psychoanalytic therapies, as well as multiculturalism, cognitive and behavioral skills, and community-based care. While continuing to nurture this tradition, the program has grown to include expanding treatment modalities within our field and incorporate them into our training model. Our values include training highly ethical, independent, and responsible Clinical Psychologists who will give excellent care to adults, children, and families using an integrative approach that fits the needs of the individual clients and families.

Post-Doctoral Fellowships:

Postdoc in Assessment with Neuropsychological Emphasis:

Sankofa Psychological Services is excited to invite applications for a one-year, full-time postdoctoral fellowship in Assessment with an emphasis in Neuropsychological Evaluations. This position will allow for extensive psychological and neuropsychological assessment experience included but not limited to: traumatic brain injury, leaning disabilities, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and neurocognitive disorders. There will also be exposure to emotional and mood batteries evaluating for anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, autism spectrum diagnoses and personality disorders. Sankofa works with clients of all ages with all a wide variety of presenting concerns. Ideal candidates will be open to working with and sensitive to the needs of clients with diverse backgrounds in terms of gender, culture, face, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, etc. The Fellow may also be able to engage in the development and implementation of a neuropsychological testing battery and symptom inventory to track symptom progression alongside Ketamine Infusion Therapy. If interested, the fellow may hold a small therapy caseload. In the face of Covid-19 restrictions and keeping safety in mind, Sankofa has designed and uses Contactless Care testing rooms for various measures that cannot be administered virtually. Additionally, Sankofa has developed a full compendium of assessments that can be administered through telehealth platforms to ensure safety and comfort. 
Desired Qualifications: strong interest in psychological and neuropsychological assessment, the completion of at least 20 comprehensive assessment batteries (or equivalent), experience with administration, scoring and interpretation of various assessments (including but not limited to: WAIS-IV, WISC-V, WIAT-III, D-KEFS, RBANS, CPT3, IVA2, NDRT, MCMI-IV, MIPS, MMPI-II, NEPSY-2) If a candidate is not familiar with all these tests, a strong desire to learn and incorporate them is sufficient. Graduate from an APA accredited PhD or PsyD program is strongly preferred. Completion of an APPIC internship in clinical or neuropsychology.
Salary: $40,000

UIC-JMLS Counseling Center Postdoc:

Sankofa is pleased to partner with John Marshall Law School to offer a one-year, full-time post-doctoral fellowship for the 2021-2022 academic year. The Fellow will provide a range of services, including individual therapy, group therapy, wellness workshops, cognitive assessment testing, and psychological/emotional assessment testing. This one-year fellowship meets criteria for licensure at the doctoral level as a clinical psychologist in Illinois. Requests for Fellows seeking out-of-state licensure can usually be accommodated.
Salary: $40,000

Graduate Practica / Externships / Internships:

Assessment Externship:

Sankofa offers training in psychological assessment for personality features, complex psychiatric diagnosis, symptom clarification, learning impairment, and cognitive issues. A weekly diagnostic seminar provides the opportunity to discuss test data and case material, as well as two group supervision meetings for scoring and administration techniques. Trainees will complete approximately 10-18 full assessment batteries throughout the training year, on clients ranging from school-age to geriatric, with referral questions including psychiatric clarification, disability evaluation, learning assessment, fitness for duty, and chronic psychological problems.

  • Clinical Psychology doctoral students are welcome to apply.
  • Please note:  This Assessment Externship is designed to match the curriculum required by clinical psychology and school psychology doctoral programs.  Counseling, Social Work, and Family Therapy students are encouraged to apply to the Therapy and Advanced Therapy training opportunities, below.

Therapy and Advanced Therapy Externship:

Sankofa offers training in psychodynamic and existential psychotherapy for individuals and groups. Clients present from school-age to geriatric with a wide range of clinical issues, including trauma, mood, anxiety, life transition, family conflict, relationship issues, and behavioral problems. Specialized training and supervision is available for play therapy for children, models of psychodynamic psychotherapy, existential-humanistic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy. In addition to therapy, advanced externs conduct 5-10 assessment batteries throughout the training year.

  • Counseling master’s students and Clinical Psychology doctoral students are encouraged to apply for the Therapy Externship.
  • Clinical Psychology doctoral students with at least one year of assessment experience and one year of therapy experience are encouraged to apply for the Advanced Therapy Externship.

Sankofa Psychological Services is accepting trainees for the 2021-2022 assessment practicum, therapy, and advanced therapy practicum.
