Reactive Attachment Disorder

When children have experienced transitions or turmoil from a young age, they may have difficulty developing normal family and peer relationships. Some children react with heightened anxiety about all relationships. Others latch onto anyone and everyone they see.

Often, children show a mix of abnormal attachments. Sankofa staff work with empirically and theoretically supported treatments to help children develop a healthier sense of themselves and the supportive people in their lives. Family sessions are common in treatment, as well as individual play therapy and anxiety-reduction skills.
